Also makes sense because aside from bolas and Eldrazi (both of whom have been dealt with) they are the other “big bad” in magic. "For Internal Use Only / Game(Some?) Press J to jump to the feed. Alternatively, this could just be an internal placeholder art. Karn has unfinished business with New Phyrexia and the Dominaria set lore stated he was searching for the Golgothian Sylex. I found the 2014 story, Kruphix's Insight to be really good about plotting the future story out: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/magic-story/kruphixs-insight-2014-06-11. Of course we're going back there. While he was on Dominaria, Karn found the Golgothian Sylex. The story for Dominaria included Karn saying "Hey guys, got this sylex so I can go nuke New Phyrexia.". It seems weird to me that they'd revisit planes consecutively who's previous appearance was also consecutive (Zendikar+Scars and Battle+Return to NP), if that makes sense. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Anyway, Karn, with Sylex in hand, has agreed to help the Gatewatch defeat Nicol Bolas, and in exchange, that will help him deal with New Phyrexia. IIRC, when they reprint cards in a block set, every card gets new art. Posted by 1 year ago. EDIT: Disregard thanks. I don't think the headliner card of a potential return to New Phyrexia is going to be a reprint (same art and all). It's quite possible they're carrying the storyline forward in other Magic branded products, without giving it a full fledged block of its own. Phyrexia is one of the most glaring loose ends we have right now. Anyone else think that they will eventually get back to it? Yes, I’m not sure how soon is soon, but Karn, tezzeret, Elspeth and Ashiok’s stories are all definately planting the seeds for a phyrexian based story. A few things make me think that one of the set of 2021 might have a return to new phyrexia set (peraps even two set, if they finally get back to a block structure, or if they want to do a "new phyrexia" set before a "mirrodin" set). I don't think the headliner card of a potential return to New Phyrexia is going to be a reprint (same art and all). Id be shocked if in the next year we don’t see phyexians even if it’s not actually a return to new phyrexia. Return to New Phyrexia. So this couldn't even be a normal card in the set, much less a headliner. And there's some old lore in which the sylex was destroyed... Urza’s Ruinous Blast - (G) (SF) (txt)[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. We'd be visiting another block between zendikar and new phyrexia. The box art is Puresteel Paladin. http://www.universaldist.com/p-228501-mtg-arena-of-the-planeswalkers-tears-and-fears-exp-4.aspx. Yes, they probably want to speed up story cycles, but going right from one super popular setting directly into another seems pretty wasteful. Nah, it's going to go as plan and we'll never visit New Phyrex because it's just one paragraph of Karn blowing up, setting up the bomb, and getting out. It's not quite consecutive. Probably won’t take as long to build up to though. 111. I'm pretty sure we'll get there soon, or at least see a furthering of the story. What gamebreaking new mechanic that makes cards cost less than they need to to be balanced will appear on the next visit to Mirrodin/New Phyrexia? That plane has such immense lore importance that a return is inevitable, probably as a single set like dominaria, because of its powerful mechanics. So… a new world seems more likely after the next Core set. "Affinidredge - Instead of paying ~'s mana cost, you may put an artifact card from your graveyard onto the battlefield.". Join us discussing news, tournaments, gameplay, deckbuilding, strategy, lore, fan art, cosplay, and more. Well, we don't have anything as clear cut as the temples, but I feel like a bunch of card from core 2021, as well as the amonketh remastered, are hinting at an upcomming "artifact heavy" set. Edit:I was hopping around on the MTG Wiki and found this in the description of Mirrodin: Art Graphics Are Not Final". And it has already made its way from one world to others. Thanks for reading my post and please let us know what you think about it! That alone wouldn't be enought to doubt, but the fact that Amonkhet remastered include cards such as [[dispossess]] or [[shatterstorm]], that are completely worthless in draft, and don't coutner any important deck in historic, make me think that we're heading to phyrexia, and that these cards were included as some sort of previsionnal safety valve. This seems like a mess and probably old info. You know, I'm not sure he actually did find the sylex. Especially given that Karn still feels guilty about his role in the rise of New Pyrexia, and that while torturing Elspeth on Theros Ashiok learned about the Phyrexians and immediately planeswalked to go find them. I think the New Phyrexians will be back soon, but not necessarily New Phyrexia itself. If they are keeping the AoTP expansions up with the card game expansions, this is certainly intriguing. It'd be a bit odd to see them on consecutive years, but Mirrodin and Ravnica were two years apart and so were their returns, so who knows. ", Says it right in your linked article that they've already spread out from New Phyrexia. Through the story in Dominaria we can expect new Phyrexia soon enough, Karn has made the deal with the Gatewatch to deal with Bolas then they will help with Phyrexia. Just posted this because I thought it might be of interest. Reading this its surprising to me how much random shit I know about MtG lore from before I was playing - the only new bit of information that I learned from your comment was the bit about the stones becoming his eyes.
